So, I'm back. Sort of. I've mentioned to a few folks that I've started doing game development, and in fact, posted a game a while back (that was really short and sucked). Turns out my thing is graphics, not programming so much. With that in mind, me and my roommate (a college graduate programmer) have started doing games. It took a little while to iron something out, since our first attempts at game development were a little ambitious, but we also didn't want to make ourselves do cell phone games or anything like that. We think we've found a good, comfortable spot with a big, ambitious game that won't take us ten years to make.

Maricide is going to be a rogue-lite platformer. That it, it plays something like a Mario or a Castlevania, but the levels and enemy placement change every time you start the game up. If you've ever played Binding of Isaac or Rogue Legacy, it's a bit like that. I'm doing all the graphics, and the creative direction is mostly me bouncing ideas off of my roommate. So, if you liked some of the weirdness of Mushroom Go and its character designs and the various turns and all that jazz... well, Maricide is going to have it.

I'll probably do some major updates about the game's development here, and I'm basically turning my otherwise unused Tumblr ( into a development blog of sorts. A Kickstarter will be happening pretty soon, as well. You guys have supported and encouraged me in a huge way over the years, and I'm hoping my huge creative hiatus hasn't scared too many people off. I want this to be a game that you guys can enjoy, and I'm having fun in a way that I haven't experienced since I first started doing webcomics.

I'm so glad you're back! :) I definitely haven't been scared off, and I'm really glad to see you having fun again! I'll definitely contribute to your kickstarter too :)

During your creative hiatus, I've been working on something major myself, I am neck deep in building a new programming language. But this language isn't just any language, I am adding several new concepts that I believe will change how programming is done long term, similar to how Object Oriented Programming changed things. It'll be like a mix of C and Python, being a staticly typed tabbed language. It'll also be a mix of Procedural and OOP in a new concept I am calling modular. This week was my first major success, I have functions, integers, floats, and bools working. My long term goals also include very thorough help files and examples, easy installation, and support for foreign languages, so I expect anyone who was enough math skills to do algebra to be able to use it. I should have an alpha out around the fall, let me know if any of you guys want to try it, even if you don't know how to program!
